I haven't been writing for a couple of days because I was kinda busy and I wanted to give the diet a couple more days to have more effect and see effectively how it was working in the semi-long distance. And I have to admit it was a good idea.
I found out that on the proteins + vegetables' day the weight doesn't go down and stays stable (or just minimal lost) while on the pure proteins' days it goes down quite well. In the last four days I've lost 1.8 kgs, wich is amazing if you think that I've lost alot since I started, but this diet keeps kickin' and givin' me results that I would expect just from something like starvation. Hunger is not an issue, and in general I'm almost never hungry, I eat when I need/want too and I have a decent amount of quality food that I can choose my meals from. My old clothes are lookin' bigger day after day, great! Here's yesterday meals and updates on my weight.
Meals:
Breakfast: 100 ml semi skimmed milk and coffee + 2 tablespoons of Oatbran
Lunch: Salmon cooked in a broth made of spices and a veg. cube
Snack: Same as usual, I have lunch at work and with just one break per day I can't have snacks, but honestly I didn't feel hungry at all.
Dinner: Turkey breasts cooked in oven with quark cheese and spices
Weight:
Actual Weight: 94.8 kg
Target Weight: 85 kg
Starting weight: 105 kg
Kgs lost so far: 10.2 kg
Mood:
Satisfied as the diet keep going well. Feeling better in general.

Disappointment
Yesterday I haven't wrote anything because I was a bit disappointed. I don't know if it's the scale or what but I've seen my weight growing for no reasons. Then I understood that maybe it's just my body trying to react to the absence of certain food it was used to receive. My weight passed from 96.2 to 96.7 in one day. How can that be? I haven't eat anything not included in what the book says, but i found myself with 500 gr more in just 24 hours. I thought that's ridiculous, how can that be? My meals were made of oatbran + semi skimmed milk, chicken brests with spices (absolutely NO oil) and bresaola. Anyway, I know that I cannot keep on losing 1 kg per day, but I've found demotivating this gain of weight, in this amount, in just one day.
I didn't give up though, I've kept following the diet and today I've 200 gr less on the bodyscale, good in one day, but still annoying if I think that I've already lost 300 more 2 days ago. But I won't give up. It's between me and the scale now!
Meals:
Breakfast: 100 ml semi skimmed milk and coffee + 2 tablespoons of Oatbran
Lunch: Chicken breasts with rosemary, salmon
Snack: Unfortunately I was working and I had nothing during the day
Dinner: 100 gr Bresaola (I wasn't hungry)
Weight:
Actual Weight: 96.5 kg
Target Weight: 85 kg
Starting weight: 105 kg
Kgs lost so far: 8.5 kg
Mood:
A bit disappointed by the gain of weight but still focused on this diet. Still motivated. Death to the scales!

Cruise phase started
Today was my first day on the "cruise phase". Called this way because it has been created to litterally cruise you to your ideal weight, it's not very different from the attack phase for two reasons:
1) You just add vegetables to the pure protein diet (and add half a spoon of oatbran)
2) You alternate it with the pure protein one.
It means that I'm not free to eat vegetables everyday, but I have to alternate a period of veggie-allowed diet with a pure protein period. In his book Dukan gives various alternatives, depending on how many kilos you need to lose or just your preference. You can choose for exemple to eat vegetables + proteins for five days and then to eat pure proteins for the next five days.
Personally I chose another way suggested by the book, the 1+ 1. It means that I'm gonna have vegetables every two days. I think it's the best way, because after a long period of pure proteins like the attack phase, I need to give my body (and mind) a break, feeding it with something different, with a different taste and consistance. The only thing is that the losing weight factor is slowed down respect to the 5 +5 choice. On the other side the 1+1 it's more "safe", I mean that it's easyer to give up if you make the pure proteine phase last longer and your body will try harder to make you give up with the diet, also your mind would be bored by the same food everyday. Here's this morning weight and today's meals.
Meals:
Breakfast: 100 ml semi skimmed milk and coffee + 2 tablespoons of Oatbran
Lunch: King prawns and Surimi (seafood sticks) in a souce made with vegetable cube, water, salt, spinach, zucchini, pepper, parsley, garlic and red hot pepper.
Snack: Unfortunately I was working and I just had 3 bottles of diet coke during the day
Dinner: 100 gr Bresaola (I wasn't hungry)
Weight:
Actual Weight: 96.2 kg
Target Weight: 85 kg
Starting weight: 105 kg
Kgs lost so far: 8.8 kg
Mood:
More confident and still focused on this diet. Happy.

2 amazing days in Rome
My last post was written from Rome, where I've just spent two amazing days. I wasn't able to find a body scale so I had to check my weight just now as soon as I got home. Usually I jump on the scale as first thing in the morning when I wake up but just for today I've done it at 11.45 pm and of course it wasn't the same thing. In fact we should all check our weight in the same moment of the day everyday. The result hasn't been bad and not even splendid but, still was good enough if I consider the fact that I took it at night after a day in wich I've had several (Dukan diet approved) meals: -100 gr.
During this two days I've had fish and meat (no oil or forbidden dressing at all) and I was able to enjoy the quality and freshness of the food without compromising the path I've decided to follow. The only thing I couldn't avoid was to eat some sheep meat because I didn't want to be rude to the people that have been so nice to me and tried to support me doing their best. Today I won't include yesterday's meals because I wasn't able to check my weight and I prefere to have at least that information before I can say anything about the effects of what I'm eating. Hopefully tomorrow morning my weight will give make me smile again.....finger crossed.
Meals:
Breakfast: 100 ml semi skimmed milk and coffee + 2 and a half tablespoons of Oatbran
Lunch: Boiled Codfish + lemon; Sardines (cooked in the oven) + lemon and parsley; 50 gr Bresaola
Snack: 4 slices of Bresaola
Dinner: 100 gr Bresaola + Cottage cheese; 3 salty pancackes (made with low fat greek yoghurt, eggs, oatbran, rosemary, salt) and light ham.
Weight:
Actual Weight: 96.5 kg
Target Weight: 85 kg
Starting weight: 105 kg
Kgs lost so far: 8.5 kg
Mood:
Relaxed, happy for the results I'm getting daily and because it's not that hard but sad because I had to leave Rome.

A good day
As the attack phase keeps goin' the weight is going down as well. Today I woke up and as usual the body scale has been my first thought. I can say that I've had a nice awakening because I found out that I've lost 1.2 kg in one day! This repays me for the perseverance on this amazing diet. Yesterday I was a bit upset because I hadn't lost a gram, but that was just physiological and nothing to be worried for, but you know, when you are on a diet you always wish to lose some weight everyday. Now my actual weight is 96.6, "just" 11.6 kgs from my final target and with still 2 days to go. The attack phase will end soon and I can't wait to start the next one.
Meals:
Breakfast: 2.5 sp of porridge with 100 ml of semi skimmed milk
Lunch: 200 gr chicken breast + 1 vegetable cube
Dinner: 6 oatbran cookies + turkey breast
Weight:
Actual weight: 96.6
Kgs lost: -1.2
Kgs to lose: 11.6

The Dukan diet
On the 23th of July I've started the famous Dukan diet. As many may know it's a controversial diet for many reasons. Most of the dietologists disagree with doctor Dukan's methode, because it's too poor in carbohydrates and considered too extreme and strict, expecially in the first phase, the so called "attack phase" (the others are cruise, consolidation and stabilisation). During this period, that lasts from 4 up to 10 days, you must avoid any kind of carb, with the exeption of oatbran, that you should eat in the amount of 1.5 tablespoons per day.
It means no fruit, no veggies and no cereals (but oatbran) at all. Not an easy start if you are used to chips, pasta, pizza and junk food. At the same time you are free to eat meat (beef, chicken, turkey - no lamb or pork) in great quantity, also some kind of cheese and yoghurts are suggested (low or 0% fat ones) and eggs are welcome too. Hard work, but still doable.
Not easy doesn't mean impossible. As I wrote in the previous post, dieting is firstly about changing your way of thinking, after that you can easily manage the body stress caused by the change of feeding. Never start a diet if you are not mentally ready for it, unless is the doctor that tells you so.
Anyway, after almost one week of this diet, I ve lost 7 kgs and I don't feel weak at all, the only complain I have is about the variety of food I'm eating, but this is not diet's fault. I'm working everyday all day and so it's very difficult for me to prepare something particular. In fact online and on Dukan's book it's easy to find receipts that make the attack phase more easy to deal with.
Starting today I'll post my previous day's meals divided by timing and I will also include my weight, just to monitorise the progress in this new challenge.
Meals:
Breakfast: 100 ml semi skimmed milk and coffee + 2 and a half tablespoons of All Bran
Lunch: 130 gr of tuna (in spring water) + 16 seafood sticks (surimi) in vegetable broth made with just water and 1 vegetable cube --- NEVER EVER AGAIN, it was disgusting.
Dinner: 1 sirloin steak (beef) 150 gr + 100 ml of fruit yoghurt (0% fat)
Weight:
Actual Weight: 97.8 kg
Target Weight: 85 kg
Starting weight: 105 kg
Kgs lost so far: 7.2 kg
Mood:
Nervous and a bit stressed, i would have expected to lose something more in the last two days.

Me and diets
My story as a man on a diet has started long time ago. When I was a kid I wasn't a chubby boy, I have pictures of me at 10 and I was a skinny boy. Then puberty came and from the age of 12 I started gaining weight as fast as lightning. As you may have heard a lot of time in your life most of the time it is a psycological issue. A lot of people react by eating every times they are not happy. I was and I still am one of this person. During my teenage years I've been very close and, even if I playied basketball and several other sports since when I was 6, I used to eat every time I was disappointed or depressed about something. Little issues seems as big as mountains when you are a teenager, we all know that. I've never been obese, but I've always had 5/10 kgs extras since then, because my mind got stuck with the eating reaction. Sports litterally saved my life from obesity and diets helped me out to feel better with myself. Yes, but how long for? The first "food regime" that I followed was a very bad homemade one. I was 19 and I had just broke up with my girlfriend at that time, so I decided to react in a different way this time, I decided to lose weight, a lot of weight, and as quick as I could do. I'm italian and as you know our main course is pasta, sometimes we have pasta for lunch and dinner, but this had to stop. I quit pasta, but that was not enough, I decided to cut also all the other carbohydrates. Do not feed the beast! I wanted to kill the fat guy by starvation but I didn't know what I was doing.
In the beginning I was eating lots of proteins and veggies and I was losing weight very quickly, but I was never satisfied, first week 7 kgs down. "Not enough!".
The extreme starvation (I wasn't even eating decent portions of meat) was not enough, so I went insane. No carbs and no meat, just veggies and fruit. My friends used to call it "The apple diet", and it's one of the most stupid things I've done in my life.
I felt really weak, very close to faint everytime I stood up from a chair or my bed in the morning. One week I just had tomatoes and carrots and my skin became orange. My parents were trying to make me stop, but I had a target: kill the fat and sad guy. I was happy because the body scale was giving me good news everytime I stepped on it. A kilo per day for the first 3 weeks! But I was getting sick.
After two months I've passed from 130 kgs to 90. I felt great, but I was an idiot. What saved me that time was the trip to L.A where my parents decided to send me, maybe also to save me from that insanity. The result of the insane regime was -40kgs, a decent look and a mind close to insanity. And I hadn't kill the beast, I just made it angrier and hungrier.
After this first experience with diet (more starvation) with ups and downs I've reached a new maximum in terms of weight at the age of 29, 145 kgs. Exactly 10 years after that stupid idea.
So it was time for another (less) stupid idea, the "Sushi diet". Last year I've been eating sushi everyday, because I consider it a complete meal. It does have carbs (rice), prots (fish) and vitamins (veggies). Result: 50 kgs lost in one year. My weight was 95 kgs and I wasn't feeling weak or else, I subscribed a gym and I stopped eating sushi everyday (my wallet lost alot of weight too).
The problem is that after a while I've stopped the gym, started to eat fast food craps and gained 10 kgs. Scared by that and conscious of the risks to get fat again I decided to follow a proper diet, a diet that could help me to lose the extra kilos and help me to keep a good relationship with the food also after that. So one week ago I've started the Dukan diet. I've lost 7kgs 'till now and I've decided to start a diary about this diet, so I can monitorise the progress.
